Acupuncture strengthens the immune system, plain and simple. So how does it increase immunity? By boosting energy and giving the body what it needs to strengthen itself. At the root of it all is the movement of energy (Qi) and increased blood flow to promote healing. When the body’s energy is moving sluggishly and brokenly, the body falls prey to viruses more readily; when the body’s energy is in balance, the body stays healthy and can fight off viruses. Acupuncture and cupping therapy can be used during an acute attack of the common cold, flu, or asthma and/or preventively during the season of vulnerability. Treatment at this time promotes the body’s ability to heal itself and quickly decreases symptoms such as fever, sore throat, itchy or scratchy eyes, headache, and body aches.
Immunity can also be enhanced with Chinese Herbs, many herbs are adaptogenic and tonic immunostimulants. These are prescription grade to insure quality and efficiency. They stimulate the blood flow, increase metabolism and support endocrine system. It is the characteristic of Chinese herbs not only to cure a disease but to restore the normal functions of the body in order to strengthen the patient’s resistance.
So how does someone suffering from an immune disorder find relief? Acupuncture can regulate immune function and treat the underlying cause of the disease by reducing symptoms, speeding up the healing of infection and normalizing the body’s immune response. It works by stimulating specific portions of the autonomic nervous system through selected acupoints, which in turn causes responses in the immune system. Acupuncture can cause a rise in levels of interferon, the immune system’s messenger hormones. Regular acupuncture therapy can be effective in treating asthma, allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, colds, and infections.
