Dr. S was born and raised in Salina, Kansas, which is a six hour drive east from Denver on I-70. He spent most of his summers growing up here in beautiful Colorado, though. And, whether it was trying to live up to his dad’s reputation in baseball or following his sister around as she competed as an elite gymnast, his entire life has centered around sports. Dr. S found his own sports passion in golf and soccer (even though .. fun fact .. he was only 4’11” by his sophomore year of high school).
After some pretty extensive injuries, Dr. S hung up his cleats to focus more on school at Kansas State University, where he majored in Marketing and Finance with an emphasis in Pre-Chiropractic. He finished up in 2012 and moved to St. Louis, where he attended Logan College of Chiropractic.
Since graduating from Logan, he has had the opportunity to work with several professional sports organizations, and he’s treated athletes across the NHL, MLS and PGA. Dr. S has lived and practiced in St. Louis, Dallas, and Columbus, but he always felt like something was missing. It was the mountains that were calling, so he came back to Colorado as his permanent home.
In his spare time you can find Dr. S golfing, playing paddle ball, rock climbing, fly fishing, mountain biking, and snowboarding. Anyone who knows him knows that what’s most important to him (outside of his patients of course) is his Bernese Mountain Dog Remington (office dog, anyone?)!
Dr. S is certified by the Titleist Performance Institute to evaluate the body-swing connection through functional movement and assessment. These evaluations are primarily used to help improve golfers’ games and to prevent injury from happening. But, they can also be used to help any athlete who plays a rotational sport (e.g., tennis, baseball, softball, lacrosse, hockey, field hockey). He is a biomechanics specialist, who considers how the body moves and functions while taking patient complaints into consideration to fully resolve issues at the root cause. Dr. Russ uses various techniques such as Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson, FAKTR, Graston, Rocktape, and Functional Movement Taping.
